A signed Seirafian Isfahan rug, Persia. Motif depicting hunting scenery with King Bahram V also known as Bahram Gor (Gor means hunter). Bahram Gor was fifteenth king(Shah) of the Sasanian Empire, ruling from 420 to 438. The poet who tells the hunting story about Bahram is the well know and famous Omar Khayyam (Mathematician, astronomer, philosopher and poet). The profile face showing in the lower right corner of the centre field is most like the face of Omar Khayyam himself. Signed: S. Seirafian Isfahan Iran (Sadegh Seirafian). Knotted with kork wool on silk warps, highlights with silk pile. Executed in a rare pale/soft color scheme(not faded). C. 1.21 mio. kn. pr. sqm. C. 1960. 237×145 cm.

Late Mohammad Sadegh Seirafian the third of the seven sons created a reputation for being one of the great designers and producers of Persian master workshop carpets. He has had a major part in making Seirafian Rugs of Isfahan the best known of the best of Iranian rugs.
