Danish 20th Century Stoneware

Axel Salto, Christian Poulsen, Gertrud Vasegaard and Saxbo among others are all represented at our upcoming themed Online Auction, where we focus on classic Danish stoneware from 1930 to the 1980s.

Nothing is more popular at the moment within interior decoration than classic Danish stoneware, and now you have ample opportunity to add a piece of unique stoneware to your own home.

The Golden Age of Danish Stoneware

The years between 1930 and the 1980s form the basis of the golden age of Danish stoneware. It was here that the versatile Axel Salto, like many other highly acclaimed Danish artists at the time, established a collaboration with the Royal Porcelain Factory in Copenhagen. The Saxbo workshop was established in 1929 with Nathalie Krebs and Gunnar Nylund at the helm and housed a number of outstanding ceramicists during the following decades, including Eva Stæhr-Nielsen, Leon Galleto and Hugo Liisberg. At the same time, Arne Bang gave shape to his vases, bowls and dishes in accordance with the clear lines and minimalistic aesthetics of Art Deco.

In short, it was a true epoch for Danish stoneware, where high-quality workmanship and artistic sensibilities merged with the beautiful glazes and shapes that have proven to stand the test of time as an inspiration for posterity. All of this can be experienced firsthand at this Online Auction.
